Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball dessert
One of my favorite appetizers to bring to a party or family get together are cheese balls. Cheese balls also happen to be one of my favorite appetizers to eat. Coincidence? I think not. 😉
I love how there are literally endless flavors of cheese balls. There is everything under the sun! Ranch, onion, crab, bacon, Italian.. you name it!
We haven’t even touched on dessert style cheese balls though! This Double Chocolate Chip Cheese ball will be at the top of your favorite cheese ball list as soon as you take a bite though, promise you that.
This cheese ball is chocolatey, rich and dreamy! This cheeseball comes together in under 15 minutes easily making this a great last minute addition to any party.
Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball recipe
First, we need to make the chocolate cream cheese base. Cream together butter, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla and some milk.
Add flour, cocoa and salt to the batter. The batter will be thick like cookie dough.
Next, add in one block of room temperature cream cheese.
Using your electric stand mixer, mix the cream cheese into the chocolate mix until completely combined and creamy.
Line a small bowl with plastic wrap. Transfer the chocolate cheeseball into the plastic wrap lined bowl.
Use the plastic wrap to help shape the the cheeseball into a ball shape. The cheeseball will not stick to the plastic wrap.
Next, roll the shaped cheese ball in mini chocolate chips. The easiest way to do this is pour a generous amount of mini chocolate chips into a bowl (I usually just use the same bowl as when I was shaping the cheese ball!) and carefully, gently roll the the cheese ball covering it in the mini chocolate chips.
Store the cheese ball in the fridge until ready to serve.
When ready to serve, place the cheese ball on a large bowl and serve with mini Nilla wafers like I did or graham crackers would be great too.

Can you make a cheese ball ahead of time?
Yes, you can make a cheese ball ahead of time! I actually prefer making cheese balls at least 3-4 days ahead of when I plan to serve it so that the flavors have a chance to meld. Just store your cheese ball wrapped in plastic, then placed in an air tight container or ziplock bag.

I made this recipe this past weekend for a 40th birthday party. It was on the table with heavy hors d’oeuvres, and everyone loved it! It sat next to a traditional cheese ball, and several people asked exactly what it was. But once they got a taste, they kept coming back for more!
Alison says
Love this! Thanks for sharing Courtney! I am so glad you all could enjoy this!

Why all the flour?
Jessica says
It gives a different texture to the cheeseball!
Donna says
What kind of flour is used to be able to consume it raw? Safety regulations advise against eating raw flour. I’m sure there must be a substitution for it
Nellie says
I have to admit that I am not very cautious when it comes to eating raw flour… cookie dough is one of my favorite foods! But if you want to make sure the flour is safe, you can spread it out and bake it on a cookie sheet at 350° for 5 minutes. Let it cool and then add to the recipe.
