This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of General Mills®. The opinions and text are all mine. The new school year is only days away for us and I’ve been busy prepping my pantry for easy breakfasts and school lunches. I love finding great tasting, nutritious foods that both my kids and I agree on. There’s a bonus too- many of these favorite products of ours are also part of the Box Tops for Education program- which means I’m supporting my kid’s local elementary school as well!
The Box Tops for Education program is one of the largest school earning loyalty programs in the nation. Each Box Top is located by the UPC symbol on the product and earns schools .10. Schools can redeem the Box Tops and use the cash for whatever they’d like!
We went shopping at our local Walmart and my kid’s got really excited about searching for the General Mills® products that have the bonus BoxTops on them. (Can you spot all 5 of my children in the picture above?! I tell ya, it’s a little crazy going to the store with all of them!) These specially marked products have a bonus Box Tops certificate that you can submit to your school along with regular box tops and earn even more cash! We found several options- I picked up some boxes of Cheerios and my son, well he found what we call a “weekend cereal.” Yum! Fruit snacks are a Friday lunchbox favorite in our house, so I was pleased to find some bonus Box Tops on those.
I love including my kids in activities that supports their school. We’ve collected Box Tops for many years now- I’ve even got the grandparents collecting for us! School is a huge part of our lives and I enjoy seeing how a few little extra steps on my part makes a difference.
I created a fun & simple recipe using my kid’s favorite Box Top products- breakfast cereal and fruit snacks. My kid’s eyes glazed over while I was making them- they were in heaven!
Fruity Cheerios Bars
- 5 cups Cheerios cereal
- 5 cups mini marshmallows
- 2 TBSP butter
- 3 TBSP sprinkles
- 6-8 packages fruit snacks
Spray a 9×13 pan with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
Measure out Cheerios cereal and set aside. Add mini marshmallows and butter to a large, microwaveable bowl. (I like to spray the bowl and a rubber spatula first with non-stick spray to make this entire process easier!)
Microwave for 1 minute on high, until marshmallows begin to puff up. Remove from microwave and stir in cereal. Once it’s well incorporated, add in sprinkles. Stir until mixture is combined. Transfer to 9×13 pan. Spread mixture so that it extends to all side of the pan. Place fruit snacks into the nooks and crevices on the top of the cereal treats. Using a small baggie on your hand, gently press cereal into pan, making the top as level as possible.
Cool and cut into squares.
