French Toast Fruit Kabobs: The PERFECT Party Food
French Toast Fruit Kabobs, in my book, are classified as a perfect party food. I mean, who wouldn’t be ecstatic to walk in and see these on a serving tray?
These French Toast Fruit Kabobs mark every check off of my party food list. They are delicious (my 4 year old downed 6 of these!), no utensils required, they look fancy but are actually really easy, and they are both kid and adult friendly. Everyone loves them.
I even imagine a French Toast Fruit Kabob BAR. Wouldn’t that be adorable for a baby shower or Mother’s Day brunch?
I would make the French Toast Bites ahead of time and keep then warm in a slow cooker. Provide wooden kabobs, a variety of cut fruit (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, bananas, kiwi to name a few!) and then a few sauces to drizzle with.
The vanilla glaze included in this recipe is delicious on everything (including a spoon ????). A rich chocolate fudge sauce, or even a raspberry syrup would be drool worthy as well.
How to Make French Toast Fruit Kabobs
To make the French Toast Bites, I used Texas Toast Bread. I find the Texas Toast Bread at my usual grocery store, down the bread isle.
Texas Toast Bread is about twice as thick as your regular sliced loaf of bread. Using this thicker bread makes these French toast bites perfect little cubes.
I cut each slice of bread into 16 squares. I did this by cutting the bread lengthwise into 4 equal sections. Each one of those sections were then cut into 4 squares. Repeat with the remaining sections and you should end up with 16 squares that are about the same size.
For the egg wash, I whisk together eggs, milk, some sugar and vanilla. Each of the squares of bread are dunked into the egg wash and then fried up in a frying pan.
I usually just spray my pan with non-stick spray but frying these up in melted butter would also be acceptable (and dangerously delicious). I usually fry on two sides, but be my guest if you’d like to fry on all 6 sides of the cube. ????
How to make easy vanilla icing
The Vanilla Icing is as easy as measuring a few ingredients and mixing them together using either a stand mixer or handheld beaters.
Butter, powdered sugar, milk and clear vanilla extract are beat together until smooth. I always use clear vanilla extract so my icing stays nice a white instead of turning a brownish hue.
The icing can be drizzled on before serving or, I give you permission to dunk those French toast bites and strawberries in it.
To assemble, slide the French Toast and fresh fruit onto a wooden kabob stick alternating until the stick is full.
