The Best Clean Kindle Unlimited Romance Books – after reading hundreds of books, this list has been compiled to highlight some of the best romance novels. All of these books are completely appropriate, have clean language and they are all available to download for free on your electronic devices too!
The Best Clean Kindle Unlimited Romances – this list comes from reading hundreds and hundreds of books to find a handful of my absolute favorite authors and books.
As much as I like to make food (and eat it!) around here, I have another hobby that I am even more passionate about than food. I am an avid reader. Like more than average. I have loved reading since I was very young and spent so much time practicing that I became pretty fast. I typically read about a book a day, sometimes more! All while juggling 4 kids, cooking dinner, blogging and about a million other things. But reading is what keeps me sane and I always make sure to find moments here and there to read.
Paper books vs. digital books
When digital books started to become popular a few years back, I dug my heels in and vowed that I would stick with traditional print books forever. I have hundreds of books that I’ve collected over the years and many of them I have read multiple times. But then I discovered Kindle Unlimited and decided to try reading a book on my phone. I still love print books and make sure to get a hard copy of all of my favorites, but it is just so much easier to read on an electronic device. I do have a Kindle but I usually just read straight from my phone because it’s always in my pocket or with me in the car so it is just so much more convenient. I can read for a few minutes while folding laundry, stirring something on the stove or waiting to pick my kids up from school.
What is Kindle Unlimited?
For those of you who don’t know about Kindle Unlimited, I’ll give you the basic info. Kindle Unlimited is a subscription service through Amazon that allows you to read as many qualifying books as you want without paying anything beyond the subscription service fee. You can only have up to 10 books at a time on your device, so if you want more than that at a time, you will have to “return” a book.
If you look for digital books on Amazon, you will notice that many of the books have a Kindle Unlimited icon next to them. When I first started using Kindle Unlimited several years ago, I was getting frustrated because many of the books I was finding to read were low-quality and not worth reading (even for free)! Now, many more popular authors and books are designated as being Kindle Unlimited and I have also gotten much better at finding good books and authors.
How much does Kindle Unlimited cost?
The fee is $9.99/month, but a couple of times a year (usually Black Friday and during the Christmas in July sale on Amazon), you can get a subscription for about 40% off if you pre-pay for 1-2 years of the service.
I have read hundreds of books through this program and it has been worth every penny. If you only read a few books a year, the Kindle Unlimited program may not be a good fit for you, but if you read more than a couple books a month, it may be a good deal for you.
What types of books do I like to read?
Let me just give you a little bit of background about my reading tastes. I read a wide variety of books – non-fiction, youth books, classics, mysteries, biographies, etc. The genre that I am most familiar with and spend most of my time reading in is romance. I hate saying that to some people because the “romance” genre tends to have a somewhat negative connotation. People think of those really smutty romances with the inappropriate covers. That’s NOT what I read! I like fun, clean romances and there are so many wonderful ones out there! Even outside of the romance genre, I am very picky about the “clean” factor of the books that I read – if there is any swearing (beyond a couple of really minor swear words), I delete the book and stop reading.
I plan to make some more lists of books outside the “Clean Romance” genre, but for this post that is what I’m going to focus on. The list below is not in any particular order, but all of the authors and books below are my favorites. These are the books that I will re-read more than once and these authors are ones that I will follow on social media and read their new books the day that they come out because I know they will be good ones.
How do you find good Kindle Unlimited books on Amazon?
Before I started reading digital books, I absolutely loved going to the library. I also would get really frustrated though because unless I had a specific book or author I was looking for, I would just be looking through shelves and shelves of random books, and trying to select good books just based on the cover. And it turns out that the old cliche about not judging a book by it’s cover can be taken pretty literally! It’s hard to find a good book!
After using Amazon/Kindle Unlimited for the last few years, I love how easy it is to find good books that are suited to my tastes! As soon as I log in to Amazon and click on Kindle Unlimited, it gives me suggestions based on my reading history and gives me suggestions of books that are similar to other ones that I’ve read! Also, if you have an author you like, you can type in their name and all of their books will appear. That part is not very different from a traditional library, but the best part of this is that when you get to an author’s page, you will find a list of 15-20 other authors who have a similar writing style! And then you can click on their pages and look through all their books and find even more authors similar to them!
You can also do searches for “clean romance” and other more specific criteria as well. I haven’t found these types of searches to be the most effective, because sometimes a lot of really low-quality books will have been tagged in these categories and it’s a little bit harder to sift through and find good books this way. A lot of times I will do these searches and then filter by customer reviews so that I can just look through the books that have been highly rated by others.
Another note – many of these authors collaborate to write anthologies (several novellas combined into one book) or they do series of books that are related to each other. For example, several of the authors below have recently done a series called Texas Titan Romances. All of the books can be read as stand-alone novels, but all of the main characters are somewhat tied together. Amazon makes it easy to find books that are related because next to the title of the book it will have the name of the series next to it. That series name will be hyperlinked so that when you click on it, you can see all of the other books in the series, even if they are written by different authors).
My Favorite Kindle Unlimited Romance Authors and Books:
JENNIFER PEEL -I love ALL of her books. Sat here for a while trying to pick a favorite and I just can’t do it. I have re-read most of these books more than once. You really should read all of her books, but here are a few of my favorites:
His Personal Relationship Manager
Jessica here! I had to add one more Jennifer Peel book, The Sidelined Wife, because I just read it and it’s honestly one of my favorites of hers. I was cracking up!
CINDY ROLAND ANDERSON – I haven’t read any books by her that I haven’t loved either, but here are my two favorites that I have re-read several times!
TAYLOR DEAN – I can not say enough about her books. Most of them are very different and many of them delve into very emotional situations. Even though some of the topics are deep and serious, the characters are lovable and real and every single one of her books is entertaining and enjoyable to read. Most of her books are completely separate, but her most recent three books are all part of a trilogy (Sound of Silence Series), so make sure to read those in order. I really loved all three, but the first one (Stone Silence) was my favorite of the three!
Chasing Fireflies, Power of a Matchmaker series
Jessica again! I had to add Taylor’s Chasing Fireflies, Power of a Matchmaker book because I just adored it!
CAMI CHECKETTS – Cami has written a ton of books in the last few years for different series and anthologies with several other authors. I have enjoyed them all, but I really love some of her stand alone novels that she wrote earlier in her career. A lot of her earlier books are also suspenseful so make sure to read all of them if you enjoy romantic suspense! The Colony is a sequel to Poison Me, so make sure to read Poison Me first.
RACHAEL ANDERSON – LOVE all of her books! She writes some contemporary novels that are wonderful, but she has a Regency romance series (The Tanglewood Series) that I absolutely love! I’m very picky about regency romances – there are some that are just really boring to me and I have a hard time getting into them, but then there are some that are some of my absolute favorite books ever!
The Fall of Lord Drayson (first book in the Tanglewood series – make sure to read all 3!)
Prejudice Meets Pride (first book in the Meet Your Match series)
The Camdyn Series by CHRISTINA CORYELL – there are 5 books in the series and none of them are actually available through Kindle Unlimited but the first book is FREE for everyone and I just love this series!
SHANNON GUYMON – a lot of her books are not Kindle Unlimited either, but she has several trilogies that are all related, and the first book in each trilogy is available through Kindle Unlimited so you can see if you like the series before you have to buy any books. Below you will find the first book of each of her trilogies in the order that they go.
Pimpernel by SHERALYN PRATT (I absolutely LOVE this book! She recently wrote a sequel, which is good but I just didn’t love it as much as the first one. She also wrote King of the Friend Zone, which is a great read and is part of a series called The Power of the Matchmaker. This is a series that was done in 2016 where 12 different authors each wrote a book – one came out each month and they are all very different but have one unifying character – the matchmaker. I read and enjoyed all of them!)
ANNETTE K. LARSEN – (She has written 5 books that are all part of a series called the Books of Dalthia. I have enjoyed all of them, but Just Ella (the first one) is my absolute favorite of the series!)
Jaclyn M. Hawkes – (She has written one series called the Rockland Ranch series that has 4 books in it. She also has several stand alone novels and I love all of them!)
Peace River – first book in the Rockland Ranch series
Wildflowers and Kisses – another one of my favorites
SHANNA HATFIELD – Most of the other authors write more contemporary books, but a lot of Shanna Hatfield’s books are set in the 1800s. I will admit that I don’t usually love books that are written about this time period, but I really do love all of her books. Shanna also has written quite a few books about cowboys! Again, not my favorite but somehow I just love them all! She has several different series, so make sure to read each of the series in order. She has tons of books which I love because there is nothing more frustrating that finding an author you love and they only have one or two books for you to read!
Aundy – first book of 8 in the Pendleton Petticoats Series
The Cowboy’s Christmas Plan – first book of 6 in the Grass Valley Cowboys series
Love at the 20 Yard Line – A stand alone contemporary novel, not Kindle Unlimited, but free for everyone!
I have so many more favorite authors – I’m sure I will continue to update this list as I think of them. Many of my favorites have books that are not available through Kindle Unlimited so I didn’t include them here. Please leave comments and let me know if you have other favorites – I am constantly looking for new favorite authors since most of mine can’t write quite fast enough to keep up with me!

Jessica also loves to read when she isn’t baking, and although we read a lot of the same books, here are a few of her favorites!
Hi again! Jessica here! I explained a bit about each of my featured authors below, but I wanted to mention that all the books below are available on Kindle Unlimited. I am an incredibly fast reader and would bankrupt our family if I had to pay individually for each book! I have been a Kindle Unlimited reader from the beginning and love, love, love the program.
I’ve read several of Michelle Pennington’s books and it seems she wrote several, then took a break and recently began wiring again. I first read one of her recent novels and really enjoyed it, so I read most of her other books. Yeah, there is a big difference between her older ones and newer ones. Just keep that in mind when reading!
This is my favorite of all Michelle’s books. It’s a young adult story that is sweet and interesting. I love the two main characters. I finished reading it and then a week later decided to read it again! Anyone else do that?!
The Trouble with Billionaires (Southern Billionaires Book 1)
I enjoyed this one and actually laughed out loud in several parts. It looks to be the beginning of a series too, which I love!
This one too had some really funny moments. I especially like that the main character is more lighthearted about life. That and it’s a Christmas novel, which I adore. Have I mentioned that before? I love reading Christmas books!
I just recently discovered Marcia McClure and was delighted to see just how many books she’s written! Most of her books are longer too, so instead of finishing one in a day or two days, it takes me 4 or 5. Marcia’s been dubbed the “Queen of Kissing” and I completely understand why. This woman can write the BEST kissing scenes! Her books have great story lines and are just really fun to read. I’ve already finished several and have even more in my que. She writes everything from contemporary to period novels and even a good amount of westerns. I imagine her novels aren’t 100% historically accurate since I don’t seem to struggle with dialect or anything, despite her crossing genres. I don’t really get hung up on that sort of stuff though- I just like to enjoy the story.
Suggestion #1- sometimes her books can be a bit slow in the beginning. Hang in there because usually by the 60-70% mark I don’t want to put it down!
Suggestion #2- don’t judge her books on their covers or titles. I haven’t really liked any of her book covers- they all look dated to me or something. But her books are so fun, even if the covers and titles are a little random/ strange looking!
Nicole Deese– her books are really well written romances with a great storyline. More angst than most clean romances, but they’re just amazing. I like books that make you feel- and Nicole’s do just that.
This is the first of a 3-part series called “Letting Go.” Read all three- I loved them all.
This series has less angst and more humor. There are 3 books that make up this “Love in Lenox” series and I enjoyed each one. Plus, hello, it’s a Christmas book! I’m always game for a fun Christmas romance!
Brooke St. James– this is one author I read who, I swear, writes a book a month! She has written dozens. I have a theory however- I think she has a ghost writer, or another person who she’s hired to write books for her. She almost always writes series’ and I find I absolutely love a solid 3 or 4 books of her 5 or 6 book series. Yep- there just seems to be one or two in each series that falls a little flat. At any rate, I wanted to include her simply because she has tons of reading material and I’ve really, really loved several of her books.
I highlight my 3 favorite series’ below and included a bit of info on each one.
This is the first book in the Hunt Family series. I think this is my favorite series of Brooke St. James’ ever! I found myself reading several of the books more than once.
This is the first book in an interesting series called, Shower & Shelter Artist Collective. I thought the first book was just okay and when the second came out, I didn’t immediately download it. It wasn’t actually until the 3rd book released that I opted to read them again and am so glad I did! It was a fun, heart warming series.
This is Book 1 in the Martin Family Series. I really feel like this series gets better with each book!
Tammy L. Gray– Tammy Gray’s books tend to have a bit more angst, but I still really enjoy them and they always have a happy ending!
Jolene Betty Perry– this author has a way of really endearing you to her characters in a short amount of time. She’s a great writer and am so excited that she’s coming out with a new series soon!
This is a collection of 3 novellas Perry wrote with a fairytale reversed type theme. They were fun, quick reads. The novella based on Cinderella was my very favorite and I’ve re-read that one a few times!
This book of novellas all have a road-trip theme and it’s what first introduced me to Perry’s books. There are several good ones, but Perry’s is the first and best, in my opinion.
Jolene Betty Perry is LDS (Mormon) and writes several novels based on characters also of the same religion. The next 2 books have LDS religious themes weaved throughout.
This is not only one of my favorite Jolene Betty Perry books, it’s one of my favorite books ever. The religious undertones about honor and responsibility and how blessing come from upholding those just really spoke to me. It’s not just a romance, it’s so much more. I was nervous at first when I read it’s a romance novel where the main characters meet while the man is out serving an LDS mission. But don’t let that change your mind about reading it! The book is beautifully written and I’ve read it several times now.
My Forever is actually the 3rd book in her series entitled, The Boys Next Door. It’s the only one that’s part of the Kindle Unlimited program and so I did buy the first 2 books. I’m glad I did and I enjoyed them, however My Forever is my favorite by far and can really be read as a stand-alone novel. It too is one I’ve re-read a few times. It’s a book about patiently waiting for those strong feelings of absolute “rightness” in life.

The title of this post had me hooked and when you mentioned how your family would be bankrupt from your reading addiction if it weren’t for Kindle Unlimited I felt like I met a true kindred spirit!
I immediately picked a book you recommended toward the beginning (“Trouble in Loveland” assuming that you would start with your absolute favorites, lol)… loved it! I especially loved that I could start it and know that it wouldn’t turn “slutty” about the time I fell in love with the characters since that is one of my biggest pet peeves! The worst is when you’re about 3 books into a series before it suddenly turns a corner and suddenly is describing in detail things that should be left private (if you get my drift). Thank you, thank you for giving me a reliable list to come to when I feel like a good romance!

I cannot thank you enough for making this list. Reading is my top relaxation, but lately I really felt I needed to get away from romance. It all just seemed to be too graphic and I wouldn’t want my 5 year old daughter to see it as she is now able to read… that said thank you so much.

So fun to find another avid reader who likes books as much as we do! I love that there are so many romances that are so good, but that are appropriate too!

Thank you for this list! Are you on goodreads? If so, I’d love to follow you and see your other book suggestions. You all might like Laura Frantz, Julie Klassen, Janette Ralisson & Shari Tapscott’s books.

I do have a Goodreads account that I created years ago but haven’t ever updated it! 🤦🏼♀️ I love Janette Ralisson and Shari Tapscott but haven’t heard of the other two so I’ll have to check them out – thanks for the suggestions!

I love your list of clean books! I wonder if you would like to add another one to your list. The Matchmaker’s Spell is written by yours truly. I don’t know if it’s one that you would like, but you can check it out. It is on Kindle Unlimited.
Eira hates Christmas, but she’s about to fall in love with Santa Claus.
You probably get these all the time from other authors. I’m not very good with marketing, so my book is going unread. It may be about Santa Claus, but it takes place over a few years and during all seasons.
