BBQ Chicken Pizza

BBQ chicken pizza is made with a fabulous homemade pizza crust, tender chicken, cheeses & your favorite BBQ sauce! Homemade pizza is the best and this recipe is loaded with fantastic flavors!

Pizza Dough

  • 3 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 TBSP olive oil
  • 2 ½ tsp active dry yeast or instant yeast!
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp salt


  • 3 cups diced cooked chicken divided
  • 2 cups BBQ sauce divided
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese divided
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese divided
  • ½ cup red onion thinly sliced, divided
  • Cilantro


To Make the Pizza Dough

  • Start by dissolving your yeast and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl. Allow it to sit and rest for 10 minutes so that the yeast can bloom.
  • Then, stir in the oil and salt.
  • Next, mix in 2 ½ cups of flour until well combined.
  • Then, turn the dough out onto a clean and well-floured surface.
  • Knead the dough into the flour, gradually adding in a small amount of flour as necessary until the dough is no longer sticky.
  • After that, place the dough into a well-oiled bowl and cover the top with a cloth. Allow the dough to rest and rise for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  • Once the dough has set, punch down the dough and then form it into a tight ball. Allow the dough to relax for about a minute before rolling it out into a pizza shape.

BBQ Chicken Pizza Toppings

  • Preheat your oven to 450 degrees F.
  • Slice the chicken into small bite-sized strips and place them into a medium sized skillet preheated over medium-high heat. Cook for about 5 minutes or until the chicken begins to brown.
  • Then add ⅓ cup of your BBQ sauce of choice to the chicken. Cook for an additional 2 minutes or until the sauce is glazed onto the chicken and the chicken is fully cooked through.
  • Slice 1/4 of an onion into small pieces, set aside.

Assemble the pizza

  • On a parchment lined cookie sheet or on a pizza pan, roll out your dough into a circle.
  • Spoon 1 cup of your BBQ sauce over the top of the dough and spread it out, leaving about an inch of the crust uncovered around the edges.
  • Then, spread 1 cup of mozzarella cheese out over the top of the sauce.
  • Next, add the chicken & sliced red onions. Spread the chicken evenly over the pizza, along with the onions.
  • Sprinkle remaining cheese on top and if you have chosen to use parmesan cheese add that too.

Bake Pizza

  • Bake in the oven at 450 degrees F for 8-11 minutes or until the cheese has melted and the crust is a nice golden color.
  • Remove the pizza from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  • If desired, sprinkle the cilantro over the top for garnish.
  • Cut into 8 equal sized slices and serve. Enjoy!

Note: If you like pineapple on pizza, add 1/2 cup pineapple tidbits! The flavors are incredible!
