Ingredients

  • 17.3 oz puff pastry sheet, thawed
  • 21 oz canned apple pie filling
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 tsp water

Almond Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 TBSP milk
  • 1 tsp almond extract

Instructions

  • Prep: Preheat the oven to 400ºF. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicon mat, then set it aside.
  • Roll out the thawed puff pastry dough and slice each pastry sheet into 4 equal squares using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter.
  • Filling: Spoon about 3 tablespoons of pie filling into the center of each pastry square.
  • Seal: In a small bowl whisk one egg, with one teaspoon of water. Use a pastry brush to spread the egg wash on the edge of the pastry dough. Fold the corner without the egg wash over to the edge with the egg wash. Press the edges together with your fingers and then with the tines of a fork to seal the edges.
  • Bake: Place each turnover onto the prepared baking sheet. Put the puff pastries into the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden, puffy, and flaky.
  • Almond Glaze: Combine the powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract in a small bowl. Mix with a whisk until it is a thick liquid. The glaze should fall easily off the end of a spoon or fork. If you feel it is too thick, add more milk, one-two drops at a time, or if it is too runny add just a pinch of powdered sugar at a time.
  • Use a fork or spoon to drizzle the turnovers with the almond icing. This is best done when the turnovers have cooled down a bit. Serve and enjoy!
