Ingredients

For the meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground beef or half beef + half pork
  • ½ cup uncooked long-grain rice not instant
  • 1 large onion finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp fresh parsley chopped (or 1 tsp dried)
  • 1 tsp paprika optional
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 Tbsp milk
  • salt and pepper to taste

For the sauce:

  • 3 tomatoes, crushed or 14 oz tomato sauce/crushed tomatoes
  • 1 ½ cups water or beef broth
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • fresh parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Mix meatballs: Combine beef, rice, onion, egg, parsley, Worcestershire, milk, and seasonings. Mix gently.
  • Shape: Roll into golf ball-sized meatballs (about 20).
  • Assemble: Place the meatballs in a deep baking dish, then add crushed tomatoes, broth, onion, sugar, and spices. Stir gently.
  • Bake: Cook uncovered for 45–50 minutes, until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce is thickened.
  • Serve: Sprinkle with parsley and enjoy warm.
