Ingredients

Pretzel Dough

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 TBSP sugar
  • ¼ oz instant dry yeast one packet
  • 1 ½ tsp kosher salt

Baking Soda Bath

Pretzel Dogs

  • 1 egg
  • 12 all beef hot dogs
  • 3 TBSP unsalted butter melted
  • Coarse sea salt or coarse kosher salt
  • Cheese sauce for dipping

Instructions

  • Dough: Combine the warm water, flour, sugar, yeast, and kosher salt in a large mixing bowl. Use a dough hook or wooden spoon to mix the dough until combined. You want to mix the dough until a ball form if using a dough hook, if using a spoon knead the dough until slightly sticky and formed into a ball.
  • Place the dough ball into a greased bowl and cover and set aside in a warm spot to rise for an hour or until doubled in size.
  • Prep & boil: Preheat the oven to 425°F. Divide the dough into 12 balls and roll the balls into thin ropes. Wrap 1 rope around each hot dog and place on a parchment lined tray.
  • In large pot over high heat combine the 8 cups of water and baking soda and bring to a boil, reduce to a bubbling simmer.
  • Add your pretzel wrapped hot dogs, just a few at a time to not overcrowd the pot, and boil for just 30 seconds. Using a slotted spoon remove the hot dogs from the water and place on a parchment lined baking tray.
  • Bake: In a small bowl whisk an egg with a splash of water. Brush the egg wash over the dough. Place pretzel dogs into the oven and bake for 13-15 minutes until golden brown.
  • Once browned remove from the oven and brush the butter over each pretzel dog and sprinkle with the coarse salt. Serve with cheese sauce and enjoy!
