Ingredients

Cake

  • 15.25 oz vanilla cake mix
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 TBSP vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs

Three milks

  • 12 oz evaporated milk
  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Whipped Cream

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Toppings

  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries

Instructions

  • Prep: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9x13 pan with non stick spray and set aside.
  • Cake batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry cake mix, flour, sugar, vanilla extract, eggs, milk, and vegetable oil. Mix with an electric mixer until no lumps remain.
  • Proceed to pour the cake batter into the prepared pan and bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes. Let it cool completely on the countertop or place it into the fridge for a speedier process.
  • Milk mixture: Add all three milks into a medium-sized mixing bowl and whisk together to combine. Place into the fridge until ready to use and the cake has cooled completely.
  • Whipped cream: Pour heavy cream into the bowl of an electric mixer. Mix on high for 4-6 minutes, until cream has thickened and stiff peaks form.
  • Add powdered sugar to the cream.  For more sweetness add more powdered sugar until satisfied. Place into the fridge until ready to use.
  • Assemble: Make sure cake is completely cooled. Poke holes all over the cake with a fork or the end of a wooden spoon.
  • Pour the three milk mixture slowly over the cake. You can add more or less depending how moist you want the cake.
  • Spread the whip cream evenly over the cake.
  • Decorate: Wash the blueberries and strawberries well, make sure all stems are removed. Thinly slice the strawberries.
  • Start decorating by adding the blueberries to the upper left side of your rectangular cake, covering a section about 3 inches across and 2 inches down.
  • Use the sliced strawberries to line the top of the cake to help hold the blueberries on top of the cake to create the first red stripe on the flag. Then, leaving a 1-inch space, make 3 additional lines of strawberries across the cake for more stripes.
  • Place remaining whipped cream in a piping bag to pipe the white lines of the flags. A 1M star tip or any decorative tip would be fine. Pipe small star-shaped bits of cream in the spaces between the strawberries.
  • Chill: Place the cake back into the fridge so that it has time to absorb the milk syrup. We recommend a minimum of 4-5 hours, but overnight works best. Slice, serve, and enjoy!
