- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 cup buttermilk*
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp grated orange zest
- 1 tbsp fresh squeezed orange juice (zest & juice both come from 1 med orange)
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup Half & Half
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
Preheat waffle iron.
Combine dry ingredients in a small bowl. Set aside.
Add eggs to a mixing bowl and whisk. Add in melted butter, buttermilk, vanilla, orange zest and juice.
Combine wet ingredients with dry ingredients and whisk to combine. Let sit for about 5 minutes, until waffle iron is hot.
Depending on your waffle iron, pour in 1/4-1/3 cup waffle batter. Cook according to waffle iron directions.
Top with Butter syrup and fresh fruit. Enjoy!
Combine butter, sugar, half & half and honey in a medium sized saucepan. (Syrup will bubble up later on!) Whisk to combine while heating. Bring to a low boil. Boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat & add vanilla. Add baking soda in slowly. Let cool to thicken. Serve drizzled on waffles.
* Buttermilk in waffles creates a richer flavor, but the waffles are a bit softer. To get a crisper waffle, use regular milk.
