Ingredients

  • 3⁄4 cup warm whole milk
  • 1⁄3 cup brown sugar
  • 1⁄4 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1⁄2 cup pumpkin puree not pie filling
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1⁄2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 1⁄2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1⁄2 tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • ¼ tsp ginger
  • 1⁄2 cup salted butter room temperature

Instructions

  • Dough: In the bowl of a stand mixer, fitted with a whisk attachment, combine the warm milk, brown sugar, warm water and yeast. Lightly whisk all the ingredients together, then let the mixture proof for 5 minutes or until frothy. Then, add in the pumpkin puree, honey, egg and vanilla extract and whisk to combine.
  • After that, change out the stand mixer attachment to a dough hook.
  • In a separate large mixing bowl combine the flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, cloves and ginger. Proceed to add the flour mixture to the stand mixer bowl and knead until a soft dough forms. Lastly, add in the room temperature butter and continue to knead the dough for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Next, transfer the dough into a separate large bowl that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let rise for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  • Once the dough has doubled in size, turn it out onto a clean, floured surface. Roll the dough out into a rectangle about 15”x10” in size. Using a pizza cutter, divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece, pinching the bottom together to help keep its shape. Place each roll into a greased 9x15 baking dish and let rise for 45 minutes.
  • Bake: Towards the end of the rising time, start preheating the oven to 350°.
  • Once the rolls have risen, place them into the preheated oven on the center rack. Bake for 40 minutes, until golden. Once baked, remove from the oven and brush the tops with butter if desired.
