Valentine Cream Puff Ingredients
For the Choux pastry, you will need:
-Butter: We will use 1 stick (1/2 cup) of unsalted butter that has been sliced into 6-8 pieces (this helps it to melt faster)in the dough.
-Milk: We need a 1/2 cup of milk.
-Water: We also need 1/2 cup of water in the dough recipe as well.
-Sugar: 2 teaspoons of sugar will help the dough to sweeten slightly when baking.
-Salt: 1/4 teaspoon of salt in the dough will help to enhance the flavors nicely.
-Flour: We only need 1 cup of all-purpose flour for the gluten in the dough.
-Eggs: We will need to use 4 beaten eggs in the dough to get a good consistency and shine that we are looking for when forming the dough.
-Egg wash: To get the cream puffs looking perfect an egg wash of 1 egg plus 1 teaspoon of milk will be needed.
For the Whipped Cream Filling, you will need:
-Heavy cream: We need to use 1 cup of cold heavy cream to whip up a fluffy filling.
-Cream cheese: Adding in some richness and tangy goodness is 3 ounces of cream cheese.
-Powdered sugar: We can add a good amount of sweetness without changing the texture by adding in 1/2 cup of powdered sugar.
-Vanilla: We only need 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to help flavor and enhance the filling so that it tastes perfect.
For the Glaze, you will need:
-Powdered sugar: 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar will make a sweet and thick glaze that clings to every cream puff.
-Milk: We need 2-3 tablespoons of milk to thin down the sugar into a thick glaze. The actual amount of milk will vary to help get the desired consistency.
-Pink food coloring: I recommend using gel food coloring to help get the pink gel food coloring that we want.
-Heart sprinkles: Add a nice and festive touch to these lovely cream puffs with some heart shaped sprinkles.
-Almond flakes: If desired you can add some almond flakes to the filling of the cream puffs for a slight texture added to every bite.
How to Make Valentine Cream Puffs
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a saucepan over medium heat, add your water, milk, salt, sugar, and butter. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring until the butter melts and the mixture comes to a boil.
Add in all of the flour at once and mix quickly until well combined.
Adjust to low heat and cook, stirring every 2-4 minutes, or until the mixture becomes a ball that pulls away from the sides of the pan.
Remove from heat and transfer the dough ball to the bowl of a stand mixer with a fitted paddle attachment. You can also use a large mixing bowl with a handheld mixer.
Set the dough aside for 5 minutes to cool slightly.
Mix the dough while adding in the eggs. Try to add the eggs in slow 3-4 additions, mixing well after each addition. Beat until the mixture just falls from a spatula but still holds shape.
Pipe the cream puffs onto the baking tray or spoon them on if using a teaspoon.
Brush the tops with the egg wash.
Bake in your preheated oven for 25-35 minutes or until the cream puffs are puffed up and a golden color.
Remove the cream puffs from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the filling, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese with the vanilla and powdered sugar until smooth. Fold the cream cheese mixture into the whipped cream.
To assemble, slice the cream puffs in half and generously fill them with the cream. Top the filling with almond flakes, if desired.
In a medium bowl, combine the powdered sugar and 2-3 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Stir in a few drops of pink food coloring until you get a nice color.
Spoon a little glaze over the tops of each cream puff and then top with your festive sprinkles. Enjoy!

When should you fill your cream puffs?
You should wait until the cream puff shells have completely cooled before trying to fill them with anything. This will help to make sure that the cream puff sets up nicely and that the filling won’t melt under any sort of heat. While it might be hard to wait, it’s important for getting the perfect cream puff results that we want.
Why is it called a Choux pastry?
Fun fact, Choux is a French word meaning “cabbages.” Cream puff dough once piped into little balls on a sheet (and baked) looks a lot like mini cabbages so they started calling it Choux and the name stuck. Besides looks, cream puffs have nothing to do with the real green cabbages.
Can you freeze filled cream puffs?
Absolutely! cream puffs do great in the freezer and if you want to freeze a few for later (or make this recipe in advance) then go for it! Simply place your ready-to-eat cream puffs on a parchment lined baking sheet and place in the freezer until frozen solid (about a few hours). Then, transfer to an airtight container in the freezer for up to a few weeks. Thaw in the fridge before eating, or eat frozen for a cool and refreshing treat on a hot day.
