Yes, I’ve made this a few times now and to rave reviews! I recommend heating the whipping cream in the microwave first before adding the caramel to keep it from seizing.
It’s a wonderful recipe and definitely a keeper!

In reply to June. Oh you can definitely use your own caramel. Just make sure it's the kind that sets somewhat firm. (which is the case with most homemade caramels, just wanted to make sure!)

I made these for Easter. I did make the with all purpose 1:1 gluten-free flour. I had to bake the final about 15 minutes longer. Buuuut! They were amazing. I used the caramel nubs because I was to lazy to unwrap. My mother in law had to call to ask for the recipe.
