Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix could not be any simpler to make! All it takes is a cake mix + peaches + a can of soda. Delicious and easy peach cobbler recipe!
Can you make peach cobbler with a cake mix?
Yes! It’s one of my favorite ways to make peach cobbler! Peach Cobbler is the way to use up all of those fresh peaches. I used to make this delicious but way-too-time-consuming Peach Cobbler recipe each year. It was so good, but honestly I dreaded making it! I kept hearing about a really easy Peach Cobbler recipe that uses cake mix and a can of soda. I adore my Country Apple Dumplings that also use a can of soda as the base, so I knew I had to try it. The verdict? Oh my it’s so easy and personally, I think it’s just as delicious as the time-consuming cobbler!
Which Cake Mix do you use in Peach Cobbler?
There are several different options regarding which cake mix you can use in this peach cobbler recipe. Most people use a yellow, butter or white cake mix. Spice Cake mix tastes like heaven and you can omit the cinnamon on top- that way it’s just 3 ingredients and so fast & easy! I’ve used cake mixes with pudding and without- it really does work either way. I think the leftovers are better if you use a cake mix without pudding. Just a personal preference though.
How to make Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix
Making this peach cobbler is incredibly simple! You can use either fresh or canned peaches- even frozen peaches that have been slightly thawed. Spray a 9×13 glass dish with non-stick spray, then add the peaches to the pan. Sprinkle the cake mix on top, then pour a can of lemon lime soda over the cake mix. It will fizz and bubble while you preheat the oven. Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on top, then bake the cobbler for 1 hour. Top with vanilla ice cream of course!
Fresh or Canned Peaches?
You’ll need about 5-6 cups of peaches for peach cobbler. You can use fresh peaches, just be sure to peel the peaches beforehand. Canned peaches work too! You’ll need two large 24 ounce cans of peaches, drained.
How to peel peaches
A simple way to peel peaches is to submerge RIPE peaches in boiling water for about 15-20 seconds. The peel will literally slide right off! Peaches that aren’t quite as ripe may require a little more effort in getting the peel off, but it’s still a lot easier!

EASY PEACH COBBLER WITH CAKE MIX
Ingredients
- 1 box Spice cake mix
- 12 oz can of lemon lime soda
- 6 cups peaches Use about two 24-oz cans drained peaches
Instructions
- Peel and slice fresh peaches into chunks (or drain canned peaches). Place into a 9×13 pan that’s been sprayed with non-stick spray.
- Sprinkle cake mix directly on top of peaches. Use a spoon {or your hand like me!} to gently press the cake mix down into the peaches.
- Pour the can of soda on top. Make sure you pour it all over the cake mix, attempting to cover it completely.
- Now preheat your oven to 350 degrees. The cobbler will just sit and bubble around for a few minutes while the oven is preheating. This is good!
- Bake cobbler for 1 hour. Remove from oven and let cool for about 5 minutes. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or top with whipped topping! ENJOY!

Optional additions to peach cobbler with a cake mix:
I think this peach cobbler is fantastic on its own but adding something sounds good too! I think adding 1/4 cup of chopped pecans is a good idea. Topping the baked cobbler with vanilla ice cream is heavenly, but butter pecan ice cream would be delicious too. Add a drizzle of caramel to the top- wow!

This was delicious, but is it supposed to be 2 teaspoons instead of Tablespoons? I only used 1 Tablespoon and it STILL looked like way too much-it completely covered the cake. Even the picture you posted of the cake looks like it’s “sprinkled” with only 2 teaspoons, instead of Tablespoons. Just wondering. Thanks for the recipe.

I’ve made a similar recipe in the Dutch Oven before, and it was delicious, but this recipe did not turn out for us in the regular oven like I was hoping. Crusty with dry cake mix spots, with a half-cooked sauce underneath that tasted kind of lemony and fake. I made it using canned peaches and used a 12 oz can of soda. My theory is that the amount of soda should be increased if one is using canned peaches. They don’t render juice while baking like fresh peaches do, so, in my opinion, when using canned peaches, 12 oz of soda isn’t enough. Have you made this with both kinds of peaches? How did it turn out for you?
Jessica says
Hi Melissa! I don’t care for canned peaches so I only use fresh peaches to make cobbler. Instead of adding more soda, why don’t you try drizzling 4 TBSP melted butter on top of the entire dish?

Was good but 1 Tbsp was way too much cinnamon . Wish I would’ve read about spice cake mix first. I also think maybe using a slightly smaller dish would’ve made it better?

What a fun and easy recipe! I adore peaches, especially this time of year. I’ll be featuring this post at the Hearth and Soul Link Party later today. Thank you so much for sharing it! Hope to see you at the party. Have a great week!

Peach trees are going crazy and I’m out of room in the frig/freezer so I tried this with ingredients on hand. Don’t have 7up but found some raspberry Bacardi & a can of raspberry seltzer.
I used 1/2c. rum and 1/2c. less seltzer. Added a little brown sugar over the peaches and on top of cake mix.
Cooked in countertop oven so I turned down temp. & cooked longer so top wouldn’t burn.
Not all the cake mix dissolved and the fruit under crust is very watery but the flavor is great. Even DH who does’t like anything “mushy” liked it.
but it wasn’t enough to burn off alcohol. I don’t normally drink & one dish has me feeling a little strange. I don’t being woozy but the dessert is tasty enough that I can’t quite leave it alone. I finally drained off the liquid and froze the remainder. The juice has traces of cake mix in it & should make a nice sauce or ice cream topping.
I didn’t use cinnamon and can’t really taste raspberry in the finished product.
My peaches were cubed or crushed & frozen. Some very pretty peaches have a little bite or peck out of them, or I find them on the ground & don’t want to use without some safeguards – like boiling or freezing to kill unfriendlies.
There’s a bunch more out there, will try again when I get some 7up.
I don’t usually like cake mix “hacks”, like making cookies out of it, but this was very nice
Or maybe I’m just a leetle tipsy 😉

your comment made me laugh Franki! I’m so glad it all worked out and that you enjoyed the cobbler! 😉

A little too crunchy for my taste. I prefer a gooey dumpling like cobbler with my fruit.

I am so curious 🤪. What does the soda do for the cobbler? I’ve made a similar recipe in the past & drizzled melted butter on top. I will follow your recipe exactly because how can I change something I have never tried, therefore have no idea how it will taste. I am just curious about the soda👍👍
Thank you for the great idea

So this is actually a really old Weight Watchers recipe! The idea behind the soda instead of butter is less fat and calories and it still tastes great!

I made this using the spice cake mix. Awesome!! I did end up with dry cake mix on top. I gently stirred the dish & baked 10 more minute. I forgot the step to gently push the cake mix on my peaches. Maybe that caused the dry cake mix on top. I used fresh peaches. Thanks for sharing recipe.

You’re welcome Regina! Glad you enjoyed it!

I made this with the “Cactus Cooler” which is pineapple/orange flavored soda. Wow! Tastes great! Invited a couple of neighbors to bring their own plates and service-ware and we had a tailgate party at sunset.

Such a fun idea Geri!! So glad you liked it!

Love this recipe! We have made it with yellow cake mix in the past until about 10 years ago. Since then, we always make it with spice cake.
Also, until a few years ago, we were using a can of lemon-lime soda like the recipe calls for. Well, one time, we didn’t have any of the soda so we drained the peaches and saved the juice of one of the cans of peaches and put that on top before we baked it. It turned out just as good as with the soda! Obviously, this won’t work if you are using fresh or frozen peaches so try it sometime if you are short on the soda. 😉

Making this for dinner tonight. It smells delicious. I didn’t have the spice cake or lemon lime soda, so I used a yellow cake mix & mountain dew. I’ll let you know how it turns out!! : )

Maybe it’s me and my brought up in the south experience with real peach cobbler. The peaches were fine…canned…but the cobbler part was brown, crusty and very dry. Not at all like regular cobblers. I used Spice cake and went exactly by your directions.
Perhaps this should be called “Peach Cobbler wanna be”.

Sorry to hear that this cobbler didnt meet your expections.
