Ingredients Needed for Frankenstein Rice Krispie Treats

- Candy Eyes
- Chocolate Chips
How to Make Frankenstein Rice Krispie Treats
To make this simple Halloween Treat, first start by making the rice krispie treats.
In a large microwave safe bowl combine butter and marshmallows. Microwave on high for 2 minutes, remove from microwave and stir. Microwave an additional one minute if marshmallows are not melted and smooth.
Mix in green food coloring and vanilla when butter and marshmallows are smooth.
Add in the Krispies cereal and stir until the cereal is well coated. Pour into a greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish and with greased hands or the back of a spoon press into the pan.
- Tips for working with Rice Krispie treats:
- Spray whatever utensil you are using to mix the marshmallows and Rice Krispies with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Also, working with greased hands helps the krispies from sticking to your hands.
In a microwave safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips, stir until melted and smooth.
Dip rectangles of the Rice Krispie squares into the melted chocolate to make the hair. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
While the chocolate is still soft, use a toothpick to draw the hair, eyebrow, mouth and scar.
To set the eyes, place a small dab of chocolate under the eyebrow and set the eyes in the melted chocolate. Do the same for the chocolate chips to make the ‘bolts’ on the side of Frankenstein’s face.
Allow the chocolate to cool and harden before serving or placing in bags.
What Kind of Chocolate to use for dipping?
For this recipe, I used Milk Chocolate Chips. They were simply melted in the microwave and then used to decorate Frankenstein. You can also use semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate melting chocolate. Use the flavor of chocolate you prefer. I personally like the flavor of the milk chocolate with this Halloween Treat.
How do I keep my Rice Krispie Treats from sticking and creating a marshmallow mess?
I always spray my rubber spatula with a good coating of cooking spray and then mixing my Krispie Treats is so much easier! You can also spray the mixing bowl you use and of course, spray the 9×13 glass pan with cooking spray too. No more mess!

How do you keep Rice Krispie Treats soft?
- Make sure to not use stale marshmallows. Seriously. Rice Crispy Treats are not the treat to use up those old, hard marshmallows! Recently purchased marshmallows work best.
- Watch that you don’t overcook. You want to heat the marshmallows until they’re soft and beginning to lose shape. I find it’s easiest to not overcook marshmallows if I heat them in the microwave. Mine take just over 1 minute to be ready- that’s it!
- Always remember the butter. The marshmallow-butter combination helps keep the treats soft and chewy, so don’t leave it out or reduce the measurement.
- Don’t chill in the refrigerator. Even if you want them to set quickly, I find this just dries the marshmallow treats out more quickly.
- Store in an airtight container on the counter top.
