Butter With a Side of Bread: Oatmeal Waffles

These waffles are a staple around our house.  I found this recipe years ago and have made them dozens of times since.  In our house, we prefer them with fresh fruit and whipped cream but they also taste delicious with butter and homemade syrup.

1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup oats
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups milk
6 Tbsp. melted butter
2 Tbsp. brown sugar

Combine the flour, oats, baking powder, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl.  In a separate bowl, mix together the eggs, milk, butter and brown sugar.  Pour this mixture into the dry mixture and mix well.  Bake in a waffle iron until golden brown.  Enjoy!

  1. My children loved these! I topped with chocolate chips, and added a full teaspoon on cinnamon. I would love to see this with a chocolate, and a chocolate peanut butter version. I made these ahead of time and froze them for weeks. Five stars!

  2. I did it I use oatmeal flour instead of flour and just one egg OMG!!! they were sooooo good!!!! All my family loved! Thanks for the recipe

  3. My picky 8 year old loved this waffle. I added 2 tsp chai, 1tbsp ground flax seed seeds and 2 tbsp. of wheat germ to add some nutrients to it. Thanks for sharing.

    • What do you grease your waffle iron with? I spray mine with a lot of non-stick cooking spray and then I don’t usually have a problem.
